This is from the front page of the Dilly Texanne published by the Texas Ranger staff May 17, 1961 (click image to enlarge). Chandler Davidson and the Students for Direct Action, satirized here, were among many civil rights demonstrators of the 1960s who heard the chant, “Two, four, six, eight! We don’t want to integrate!”

More from the November 1965 Texas Ranger parody of the Daily Texan.  (Click image to enlarge.) The U.S. State Department initiated student leader exchanges between 10 U.S. universities and their Latin American counterparts. The Texas-Chile student exchange was the longest lasting of these.

More Ranger commentary

From the February 1964 Texas Ranger. (Click image to enlarge.)  Lieuen Adkins was editor. The Dubious Achievement Award to Sigma Chi refers to its Derby Day. For this charity fundraiser, the fraternity announced that all sororities would compete in events, including acquiring derby hats the Sigma Chis wore on campus. A black sorority member took them at their word and snatched a few hats, and an altercation occurred. Next year, the Sigma Chis announced that “selected sororities” would participate.

Student publications continued to draw ire from the powers that be. Though this looks like a Dilly Texanne, it was an insert in the November 1965 Texas Ranger, edited by Clint Dare. (Click image to enlarge.) Vietnam was becoming an issue, so Daily Texan Editor Kaye Northcott is caricatured as Kay Northcong.
