Larry Manire brought a copy of the “Vote NO” ad to the Stand-In Reunion in Austin Dec. 3, 2010. The 1961 athletic integration referendum prompted a record turnout. Thornton Hardie, chair of the Board of Regents, dismissed the 8,000 votes as not a majority of the 20,000-member student body. In the same election, students in the College of Arts and Sciences picked Gwen Jordan as the first black Student Assembly representative.
